Fall Trend Predictions from a Fashion Major.

Here are my top 5 fall trend predictions for 2023. From large knitwears, to Y2K throwback fashion, and more!

Leather:

Leather has BEEN in. But especially toned from bright red to maroon leather, red is in for boots, belts, bomber jackets, pants and skirts. I wouldn’t be surprised to see leather as an all around necessity and a head to toe (in the same way jeans were done this year) for this fall! For belts: a good leather, designed, chunky belt will spruce up your outfit. The weirder the better - you want people to look at your belt! Pairing them with a beige, plain sweater set, or a white skirt and top makes your outfit go from zero to a hundred FLAT. Experiment with colors, patterns, textures, and always make sure to wear them low waisted. ADDITIONALLY - this fall, patch up your leather - personalize it yourself. No one wants to own the same thing these days, and uniqueness is always better. So embrace it by buying 50 cent patches off the street vendor or etsy, and perhaps you can even start a conversation by emblazoning Fleetwood Mac on the back of your bomber.

Glittery / Metallic Heels:

By this, I don’t mean in a “going out”, “homecoming and prom” way. I mean them unconventionally, in conventional settings. A small heel with a ballet slipper, most likely in a stark silver or glittery gold, or paired with cute socks and a pair of jean shorts - this fall is about CHALLENGING the fashion stereotypes, and what better way to do that with fun footwear?

2016 core:

If 2016 (which was not too far away), is back - is tumblr back too? Shown in big, dramatic collars, bows, and monochrome, I would say its not too far off. Although I truly doubt that loose tank tops and skinny jeans are coming back (dark skinny jeans with a pair of high heels being an exception), large plaid "autumn girl" scarves, fruity, bright patterns, and knitwear is definitely making her rounds.

Large, slouchy bags:

Ditch the canvas tote bags. We’re going in hard with large, leather bags. We embrace the slouchy nature, the big, hefty purses that you can use and abuse in a Jane Birkin way. Get a black, brown, or neutral colored bag, and personalize it. Use it in: personalize with your jewelry, keychains, and even spray it with your favorite perfume. Have your sneaky link carry it around the city, chains and all. It’s fall, it’s fun, and its perfect.

Quilted Jackets:

I hated quilted jackets when they first came to be. I found them horrendous. Zero shape, zero wear - and it looked like a mattress had come by, chewed a piece of fabric, and spit the jacket out. But quilted jackets are in - just like uggs, they’re comfortable in a slightly ugly way - but they also embrace true maximalism. In truth, these jackets are comfortable, and they cover you up to make you train friendly (no creeps around here)! Get in those colors, get in those patterns - because with a jacket, you truly can’t get them anywhere else.
