We grew up together. Me - my brother - my sister "Jo" - "Laurie" - and his brother.

Jo and Laurie are the same age. I'm the youngest of them all, and my brother and Laurie's brother are best friends. Jo and Laurie are also good friends - not platonic soulmates, but growing up, they would always ride the bus together, walk home together, or bike home together if it was convenient.

Although I was the youngest, they would try their hardest not to leave me out when our families came together and ate dinner together. I remember playing nerf with them, being invited to their parties when they were seniors, or sneaking out with them. My siblings are my best friends, and although we do fight often about very petty things, I know that they always have my back.

But I've always had a crush on "Laurie", through it all. His older brother is five years older than me, but Laurie was only two. He and my sister had growth apart for a while, after they had all gone to college, and this year, I'm a sophomore and they're seniors. But last year, "Laurie" began texting me more, and we began talking. As our colleges are pretty close to one another, we also began meeting up for lunch or studying together in the library. At this point, it was platonic between us, as we were both in relationships, and it was a brother-sister type of relationship, which I was completely alright with.

However, when my sister visited me in college, I tried to call "Laurie" over so we could have a reunion, and that's when she told me that "Laurie" had confessed to her before they had gone to college. She told me that she had turned him down, and so it was pretty awkward to see him, especially because now he has a girlfriend. She asked me to keep it a secret, as our families are still very close. "Jo" is one of my best friends, and my sister, and so I would've kept it to myself even if she hadn't asked me to.

During the summer though, "Laurie" and his girlfriend broke up, and my boyfriend broke up with me. Because we both got broken up with around the same time, we hung out more and more, laughing about our old relationships and watching movies together. And just last week, he asked me if I wanted to go with him to his college's dance later this month, with a sign and roses. Deep inside, I still have a crush on him, but I haven't responded yet because I felt like I truly needed to think. Would it be weird for me to go with him, and is it turning my back on my sister or my family if I do so?
