A gifted kid will excel in everything that they do.
In the past, I didn't have to work hard and everything great will happen to me. Being able to read and memorize the times tables earlier than my peers have always been a part of my identity. Everyone acknowledged me as a gifted kid. I believed those words.
I’ve always been the person that they came to for answers. The one they fight for at a group project. Because a gifted kid never fails. I believed those words.
But those words burdened me. What if I failed? I thought everyone would be disappointed and I was right. They judged me for every wrong answer, for every failed presentation, for the times that I need help.
“This isn’t me,” that is the words that came from my mouth every time I saw a number other than 100. Another crumpled paper is held with my hands. Maybe I just don’t try hard enough. But I don’t even remember when was the last time I have enjoyed my sleep. Every day is filled with worries of disappointing people that don’t even know what I sacrificed for mere numbers on papers.
“She is just another kid.” I believed those words.
